A large antique French tian bowl with a softly weathered mustard-yellow glaze and a substantial, hand-thrown terracotta form. Traditionally used in southern French kitchens for preparing and storing food, this generously proportioned bowl was later adapted for use as a planter, with drainage holes added through the base.
The interior retains areas of its original yellow glaze, now beautifully worn to reveal the warm terracotta beneath. Its unglazed exterior has developed a pale, chalky surface with traces of green and natural variation from age and use. The wide, flared shape and thick rolled rim give the bowl a strong sculptural presence.
Perfect for use as an antique garden planter, filled with herbs or seasonal plants, or displayed empty as a decorative focal point. Its weathered finish would sit particularly well within French country, Mediterranean, rustic and collected interiors.

Condition: In well-worn antique condition with extensive glaze loss, surface wear, mineral deposits and chips around the rim. Several drainage holes have been added through the base during its later use as a planter, with a larger area of glaze loss surrounding them. There are further small chips, marks and irregularities throughout, all consistent with considerable age and utilitarian use. No obvious major structural crack is visible. Intended for decorative use or planting and not suitable for food use or holding water.
