French Antique Earthenware Pitcher or Cruche with Brown Glaze 12.2"

French Antique Earthenware Pitcher or Cruche with Brown Glaze 12.2"

Bajas existencias: quedan 1

A French antique earthenware cruche with a rounded, generous form, featuring twin loop handles and a central pouring spout, finished in a deep brown glaze over a pale, unglazed body.

Likely originating from the South-West of France, this type of vessel was used for carrying and pouring water. The upright neck serves for filling and general use, while a secondary side spout, now lost, would have allowed for a more controlled pour.

The two handles sit high on the shoulder, offering a balanced grip when lifting and tilting the vessel.

The surface shows natural wear, with variation in the glaze and areas of soft abrasion that reflect its practical use over time. The contrast between the glossy upper glaze and the raw clay body gives the piece a strong, sculptural presence.
