A rustic French wooden storage box dating from the early to mid 20th century, handmade from softwood with a wonderfully worn honey-toned patina developed through decades of use.
This simple provincial box features a hinged lid with an iron hook closure and an interior compartment, giving it a practical workshop or household feel. The rough-sawn timber, visible nail construction and untouched surface all add to its character. Inside the lid, traces of old handwritten markings remain visible, while remnants of old paper to the reverse hint at its earlier life and use.
Boxes such as this were made for utility rather than decoration, which is exactly what gives them so much appeal. It works beautifully styled on open shelving, in a kitchen, study, atelier or potting shed, and is ideal for storing letters, tools, linens, candles or everyday objects.
A wonderfully honest decorative storage piece.
