A beautiful French antique gargoulette water jug, believed to date to the late 19th century.

Made from terracotta, this traditional French water vessel has a wonderfully rounded form, four arched handles and a narrow pouring spout. The largely unglazed surface has developed rich earthy tones over time, with distinctive deep green glaze surrounding the spout and running down the body in irregular drips.

Originally used for storing and pouring water, this rustic French pottery jug is now a striking decorative piece. Its unusual shape and weathered surface make it particularly well suited to French country and Mediterranean interiors, whether displayed on a kitchen shelf, farmhouse table or alongside other antique pottery.

Sourced in: South West France
Age: Late 19th century
Material: Earthenware
What makes it special: Its rich patina and touches of green
