A wonderfully characterful antique French earthenware pot, with a softly weathered unglazed exterior and a rich yellow glazed interior.
Hand-thrown in terracotta, the pot has a generous rounded body with two applied loop handles and a slightly flared rim. The interior is covered in a traditional yellow glaze, with occasional traces and drips of glaze continuing over the rim onto the otherwise unglazed exterior.
The surface is particularly beautiful, with layers of pale terracotta, ochre, soft grey and earthy deposits developed through age and use. Tooling and throwing marks remain visible across the body, while the irregular glaze, hand-formed handles and gently uneven rim give the piece a distinctly vernacular quality.
Originally made as a practical household vessel, probably for storing or preserving food, it now makes a striking decorative pot. Its neutral exterior works beautifully with the yellow glaze just visible at the opening. It would be perfect displayed on a kitchen table, console or pedestal, either left empty or filled with dried branches and seasonal foliage.

Condition: There is wear commensurate with age and use. There is loss and chipping around the rim.
The vintage glass storage jars are exactly as advertised. Excellent customer service! I placed two separate orders several days apart, but they were packed and shipped together.
