A decorative pair of French antique brass and iron andirons, also known as firedogs, dating to the late 19th century. The fronts are richly detailed with pierced Gothic-inspired tracery and tall finials, while the long wrought iron supports to the rear were designed to hold logs within the hearth.
Elegant yet substantial, these antique firedogs combine warm aged brass with darkened iron, creating a beautiful contrast full of depth and character. The architectural silhouette, openwork decoration and fleur-de-lys style finials give the pair a distinctly French feel, evocative of Napoleon III and Gothic Revival interiors of the late 19th century.
Their proportions make them particularly versatile for styling within both grand fireplaces and smaller hearths, where they add decoration even when not in use. The naturally aged surface and gentle wear to the brass add to their appeal.
