A large and highly decorative French antique pedestal bowl in glazed earthenware, likely from the Savoy or wider Alpine region of eastern France. Hand-thrown and hand-painted, the bowl features traditional yellow slip-trailed decoration over a deep brown glaze with small green accents, all set upon a substantial pedestal foot.
The generous scale and elevated form give the piece a strong sculptural presence, making it particularly striking displayed as a centrepiece on a farmhouse table, kitchen island or dresser. The warm glaze tones and rustic decoration work beautifully within French country interiors alongside antique copper, rustic wood and natural linens.
The underside shows the raw terracotta body and traditional wheel-thrown construction associated with regional French folk pottery. Dating likely from the late 19th to early 20th century, the bowl retains the character and irregularities that make provincial earthenware so appealing.
A wonderful example of French Savoyard folk pottery with both decorative impact and authentic rustic charm.
