A beautiful French antique tian bowl with a warm mustard yellow glaze and wonderfully timeworn surface. Traditionally used in the south of France for preparing and cooking food, this piece has the sculptural presence and patina that make these old provincial bowls so sought after today.
The rich honey and ochre glaze to the interior contrasts beautifully with the pale, chalky exterior, worn softly over decades of use. The hand-shaped form, slightly uneven rim and subtle firing marks all add to its character. There is a lovely depth of texture throughout, from the glossy glazed interior to the weathered earthenware body.
It is a versatile piece for a kitchen island, farmhouse table or open shelving, it works beautifully filled with seasonal fruit, artichokes or bulbs, while also standing strongly as a decorative object in its own right.
