Antique French Confit Pot with Rare Turquoise Green & Yellow Glaze, 19th Century

A particularly striking 19th-century French confit pot, distinguished by its unusual turquoise-green glaze with rich mustard-yellow runs. The glaze is concentrated around the upper half of the pot, falling irregularly over the natural earthenware body and creating a wonderfully expressive surface of colour, texture and age.

At 29 cm high, it has a generous, well-balanced form with twin loop handles and a softly flared rim. The combination of turquoise green and ochre-yellow is far less commonly seen than the traditional mustard and olive glazes associated with French confit pots, giving this example a particularly distinctive decorative presence.

The surface is heavily timeworn, with glaze losses, chips and areas of exposed clay that reveal its long history of use. These imperfections are integral to the character of the piece and sit beautifully alongside the dramatic glaze runs.

A rare and highly decorative example of traditional French country pottery, equally suited to display on its own or as part of a collection of antique ceramics.

Condition: This an aged confit pot. There is a crack in the lower body of the pot, the surface is heavily timeworn, with glaze losses, chips and areas of exposed clay. A drainage hole has been added to the base. There is loss to the rim and wear commensurate with its age and use. Please refer to the images.
