French antique watchmaker’s cabinet dating from the early 20th century, featuring six shallow drawers with original aged labels and compartmentalised interiors once used for storing horological parts.
The drawer labels include the word “cadrans”, strongly suggesting the cabinet originated from a regional watchmaker’s or clockmaker’s workshop. The varied drawer divisions and handwritten markings inside add to its authentic workshop character and tell the story of decades of practical use.
Crafted in softwood with a warm honey-toned patina, the cabinet retains its original mismatched knobs, and worn paper labels, contributing to its beautifully timeworn appearance. Some drawers feature multiple compartments for organising small components, while others are left open for larger pieces. The vivid green drawer linings are a later addition, indicating that the cabinet was used for many years.
Today, it makes a striking decorative object for a desk, office, library, studio, or workshop. It would also work beautifully for storing jewellery, sewing notions, artists’ materials, seeds, curiosities, or collections of small objects.
