A magnificent, timeworn, antique French tian with a yellow glaze to the interior. This terracotta bowl dates to the early 1800s and is wonderfully aged. Also called a gresale, it originates from the Narbonne area on the Mediterranean coast of South West France. This beautiful earthenware basin, so typically French, could have been used to prepare confit but the large size suggests that it would have been more likely used to wash fruit and vegetables from the harvest. It's many years of use have given this bowl the most exceptional patina.
This tian is timeworn and aged. There is damage to one of the handles, along with chips to the rim, various scuffs and crazing to the glaze which adds to it’s character. Please check the photos.
