A wonderful large antique French wooden chopping board with a substantial solid wood construction, beautifully worn surface and attractive natural grain.
Believed to date from the late 19th or early 20th century, this traditional French chopping board has a generous rectangular shape with softly rounded corners and a short integral handle with a small hanging hole. Its simple, practical design and impressive thickness reflect its original purpose as a substantial piece of French kitchenware.
The warm, naturally aged wood displays lovely variations in grain and colour, with numerous knife marks, fine scratches and areas of darker patina developed through years of use. The two faces have slightly different appearances, with the beautifully visible grain and gently worn edges adding to its character.
Measuring 46.2 cm in length, 31.9 cm in width and an impressive 5.1 cm thick, this substantial antique cutting board weighs approximately 4.8 kg. Its generous proportions and traditional form make it a particularly attractive decorative piece for a French country kitchen.
