A large antique French tian bowl with a deep green glazed interior, hand-thrown in terracotta. Dating to the late 19th to early 20th century.
The bowl has a wide, open form with gently sloping sides typical of traditional tian bowls used in rural kitchens across the South of France. The interior is coated in a vibrant deep green glaze, softly mottled with natural variation from the firing, while the exterior remains unglazed, showing warm, pale terracotta tones.
Subtle turning rings are visible inside, a reminder of its handmade construction. The green glaze falls irregularly over the rim in places, with areas of wear and light loss that reveal the clay beneath, adding to its character and age.
Originally used for food preparation, this is now a strong decorative piece. Its generous scale makes it ideal as a centrepiece on a table or kitchen island, or filled with fruit, greenery or seasonal produce.
