A beautifully timeworn French antique terracotta bowl, with a deep brown interior glaze and a surface that indicates years of use.
Hand-thrown in a coarse, grit-rich clay, the bowl has a generous, shallow form typical of traditional French preparation bowls. The interior glaze has worn softly over time, revealing areas of texture and mineral marking, while the exterior remains largely unglazed, showing the natural tones of the fired clay.
Subtle irregularities in the form, along with visible firing marks within the glaze, point to an early, rural production. These are not faults, but part of the making process, giving the piece its character and individuality.
Originally used for preparing food, mixing, or serving at the table, it now lends itself just as easily to a kitchen setting filled with fruit or vegetables, or as a sculptural element on open shelving.
