A decorative pair of French antique mirror wall sconces dating from the Napoleon III period, crafted in brass and adorned with striking winged griffins and a central cherub. Combining the practicality of wall-mounted candle holders with the elegance of mirrored decoration, these pieces bring a strong architectural presence to an interior.
Each sconce features an oval mirror framed by a finely cast surround, crowned by a cherub seated between a pair of mythical griffins. Flowing acanthus scrollwork extends below the mirror, supporting three candle holders with decorative floral candle cups and drip trays. The brass surface has developed a rich patina over time, highlighting the depth of the casting and the intricate detailing throughout.
Originally designed to reflect candlelight and brighten a room, mirror sconces such as these were a popular feature in French interiors during the late nineteenth century. Today, they make distinctive decorative wall pieces for living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, dining rooms, libraries, or French country interiors.

Fantastic! Beautiful! I have been hunting for some Alfred Corneau urns for many years, as most sellers won't send them internationally, as well as at such a reasonable exchange rate. Very happy! : )
