Large French Antique Rustic Wooden Crucifix with Metal Corpus, Late 19th Century 25.6"

A striking French antique crucifix dating from the late 19th century, featuring a carved faux bois wooden cross and a silvered metal corpus with expressive detailing.

The cross has been carefully carved to imitate rough-hewn branches and natural timber, giving the piece a sculptural rustic character while retaining a refined devotional presence. The silver-toned corpus of Christ is beautifully modelled, with elongated proportions, flowing drapery and a softly timeworn patina acquired over decades of age and display.

Details including the curled INRI plaque, carved linework to the upright and skull-and-crossbones motif at the base add further depth to the piece. The contrast between the dark faux bois wood and pale metal figure gives it strong decorative presence, particularly within French country interiors, layered antique spaces and old-world European homes.
