A large and beautifully proportioned antique French tian bowl, finished with a rich green glaze to the interior that pools and deepens in tone towards the base.
Traditionally used in the south of France for preparing and cooking food, this tian bowl has a wide, gently flared form with a pouring lip and applied side handles. The interior glaze shows natural variation, with visible turning lines beneath the surface and areas of darker green where the glaze has gathered during firing.
The exterior remains in raw terracotta, offering a soft contrast to the glossy interior. There is light surface wear to the rim and edges, along with small areas of glaze variation and age-related marks, all consistent with use and adding to its character.
A strong decorative piece, it works well as a centrepiece on a table, filled with fruit, or placed on a shelf where the depth of the glaze can be appreciated.
