Antique Swiss Black Forest Carved Wooden Jewellery Casket with Blue Tufted Interior, 19th Century

A beautifully carved 19th century Swiss Black Forest wooden jewellery casket with an elegant oval form and original blue tufted interior lining.

Raised on four sculptural supports and richly decorated with Gothic Revival inspired carving, this antique wooden box has a wonderfully atmospheric presence. The lid is centred with the monogram “A.G.” within a carved cartouche, suggesting the piece was originally commissioned as a personal keepsake or jewellery casket.

The deep blue cushioned interior contrasts beautifully with the dark aged wood and gives the casket a particularly luxurious and decorative character. Its elevated architectural form and detailed carving make it equally suited to display on a console, bookshelf or chest of drawers.

Likely dating to the late 19th century, this Swiss Black Forest casket blends traditional alpine carving with Gothic decorative motifs around the body.
