Beautiful antique French barbotine asparagus serving dish, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Featuring a richly moulded border of artichokes and foliage, this decorative majolica-style serving piece was designed specifically for presenting asparagus and other vegetables.
The dish retains its original removable drainer insert, modelled as a bundle of tied asparagus spears. The perforated insert allows excess water to drain into the base below, making it both practical and decorative. The surrounding border is adorned with raised artichokes, leaves and soft green, blue and violet glazes that highlight the detailed modelling.
Whether displayed in a French country kitchen, on a dresser, or used as a centrepiece on a dining table, this is a striking example of antique French barbotine pottery. The sculptural artichoke decoration and original drainer make it an increasingly difficult piece to find complete.
A wonderful addition to a collection of antique French ceramics, majolica pottery, barbotine tableware or French kitchen antiques.

Fantastic! Beautiful! I have been hunting for some Alfred Corneau urns for many years, as most sellers won't send them internationally, as well as at such a reasonable exchange rate. Very happy! : )
