The lower portion was typically left unglazed, while the interior and upper body were glazed to create a more practical surface.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis example has a particularly decorative, timeworn surface. Over many years of use, areas of the original green glaze have naturally worn away to reveal the pale earthenware beneath, creating the wonderfully mottled finish that gives the pot so much character. Deeper bottle-green glaze remains around the neck and handles, softening to lighter green across the body.
